Feb. 20, 2013 Webinar on Learn About How People Change

February 20, 2013 Noon to 1:00 PM EST  – A Free Educational Webinar

The Institute for Behavioral Healthcare Improvement is a not-for-profit group of healthcare providers and administrators that provides consultations to healthcare systems on problems they have identified as requiring systems change.

In keeping with that mission, a presentation on how change can occur in peoples’ ordinary lives may be illustrative.  William Tucker, MD, Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Columbia’s College of Physicians & Surgeons, has a practical, non-literary approach to the reading of classic short stories that focuses on how change occurs, with all its different forms and meanings, across the life cycle.

Because this method was developed in a clinical setting, the approach is intended to address how necessary change may occur in the context of routine clinical practice around health and lifestyle issues, and it may be especially useful as a tool to employ when the customary approaches have not been effective.

Rather than describe this approach, Dr. Tucker will be demonstrating it through a live workshop discussion of Louise Erdrich’s stort story, “The Red Convertible.”  Listen in or  watch as workshop participants consider the events and characters both in terms of what happens to them in the fictional  situation and of what their experiences have to say about actual patients in situations similar to those presented in the story.

Viewers of this webinar will also be invited to participate in the discussion if they so choose.
